Open Studio Options:
High Fire Hawaii Students (currently registered in a class at High Fire Hawaii):
We believe that practicing between class sessions helps students improve their skills at a faster pace so Open Studio time is included with most of the classes we offer. In general, Open Studio time is available from the class start date through the last day for wet clay for that class. See the Open Studio Calendar for specifics.
Limits: Please remember that shelf space is limited and must be shared by everyone. Please limit your Open Studio use to 2-3 hours a day no more than twice a week (or make special arrangements with us). This should be plenty of time for most students.
Open Studio is independent work – please do not expect too much help from the staff. Please begin your clean-up early enough to finish before the close of Open Studio hours.
Non Student (not registered in a class at High Fire Hawaii):
Experienced potters who are not enrolled in a class at High Fire Hawaii may be able to use studio space for an hourly fee. Clay and glaze are available from us at extra cost. Participants must have their own tools and work independently. Storage or Firing are not included. See Firing Costs for Bisque, Cone 6 Electric , or Cone 10 Gas Reduction Firing.
Please note that Open Studio time is not intended for walk-in use by inexperienced potters. We offer a variety of classes for students who need instruction and guidance.
Fees for non students:
Handbuilding and Treadle wheel = $5.00 / hour.
Electric Wheel = $7.00 / hour.
All Open Studio time must be booked and paid for in advance. You may call or come in to schedule and pay. We accept Visa, MC and Discover in addition to cash.
We post a new Open Studio Calendar each month.
Additional times may be available. Call us at 935-8380 for information.
